<p>A novel dimeric liquid crystal compound was synthesized containing azobenzenes as mesogenic groups, which are linking by using alkyl chain. The target molecule namely the 1,4-bis[4-(4-acetylphenylazo) phenoxy] butane is obtained and the mesomorphic properties of the compound is determined. The differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy measurements confirm the existence of smectic A phase.</p>
