    <title language="eng">Nutritional valuable mineral contents of two varieties of maize (Zea mays) produced in Ilorin, Kwara State (Nigeria)</title>

    <abstract language="eng">&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The nutritional valuable mineral contents in two varieties (yellow and white) of maize from eight different locations in Ilorin were determined by the use of atomic absorption spectrometer. The two varieties of the maize have: the same mean moisture and ash contents of 11.0% and 1.6% respectively. The mean mineral contents of calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, manganese, iron, copper, zinc and phosphorus were 2.0, 120.0, 510.0, 520.0, 0.16, 2.0, 0.38, 5.0 and 280.0 mg/100g for white maize respectively. Those for yellow maize were 2.3, 100.0, 500.0, 260.0, 0.2, 3.4, 0.4, 2.9 and 300.0 mg/100g of sample. The results showed that mineral content of maize is slightly independent of variety however partially dependent on the location where it is grown.&lt;br /&gt;&#xD;
